Interhigh PepSquad Begins

Last February 09, 2009, the 11th Interhigh School was held at the Mariveles Sports Complex. Various schools showed its potential to each competition such as Mariveles National High School - Poblacion, Mariveles National High School - Poblacion (Annex), Mariveles National High School - Cabcaben, Mountain View Village School, Llamas Memorial Institute, Bepz Multinational School, and Sunny Hillside School. Many people stood by for the most awaited event of the competition which is known to be the Pep Squad.

This year, there are oly three (3) entries in this event, these were MNHS - Poblacion (Blue Marlins), MNHS - Poblacion (Annex) (Black Hawks), and MNHS - Cabcaben (Stallions). Each school were given a chance to introduce themselves through a cheer which made the crowd even more excited to get it started.

The first school that performed was Black Hawks who gave their best in their performance. Next was the Stallions who became noticeable and and favored because of the complicated stunts that they've done. And lastly, the Blue Marlins showed their Pep Squad capabilities of cheer dancing.

At the end of the competition, the Stallions took home the bacon and was entitled the winner. Meanwhile, Mariveles National High School-Poblacion was awarded as 1st Runner up in the competition.

Tarlac State University also showed their talent as they perform as guest in the Pep Squad.

Basilio Prevails Again, Bataan Etch Into History of Regional ICT Quest

Angelo Basilio secured 1st spot in the recently concluded 1st Regional ICT Quest in Instructional Video Production held in Honorato Perez Memorial High School, Cabanatuan City, last January 28-30, 2009 which was partaken by 16 other divisions and city schools in Central Luzon.

Basilio excelled above all participants by defeating other divisions in the entire Central Luzon Region which has this year’s theme, “ICT4E CLICKS! (Central Luzon Integrating Computer Knowledge and Skills)”, aimed to promote ICT in education through integration in all learning areas, provide equal opportunity for teachers and students to develop and apply skills in ICT, showcase the level of ICT awareness, knowledge, utilization, best practices and innovations in each division and to provide avenue for students and teachers to interact, compete and work together to build up solidarity and proper values.

Meanwhile, Bataan Delegates etch into the history of the 1st REGIONAL ICT QUEST after chalking 46 points, bagging the overall CHAMPION topping 16 other delegates. Below is the list of winners from Bataan.

Metrobank-MTAP Math Challenge

Metrobank-MTAP MAth Challenge Elimination Round was held last January 09,2009 at Limay National High School.Different public and private schools in the division of Bataan joined in the said competition.

The students who represented the first year category were Dianne April S. Pangilinan, Rojielyn D. Gultiano and Aubrey John R. Canlas which was instructed by Mrs.Leonora D. Jajalla; Lovely Joy Peligrino, Joseph Andrew J. Jalober and Arjay B. Pineda (2nd year) with Mrs.Corazon Arellano;Marianne Serrano,Roxanne S. Ortousie and Jetaime Siocon (3rd year) which was initiated by Mr.Ronald V. Tiangco; Kevin Paolo Robles, Joanna Joy Santos and Efraim Noel Ebeung (4th year) with the guidance of Ms. Rosemarie A. Maglaki. And with the supervision of the Head Teacher of the Mathematics Department Mr.Rolando Limua .

From the Elimination Round , two students each year level has left. The students who stand out were Dianne April Pangilinan and Aubrey John Canlas (1st year); Lovely Joy Peligrino and Joseph Andrew Jalober (2nd year); Roxanne Ortousie and Jetaime Siocon (3rd year); and Efraim Noel Ebueng and Kevin Paolo Robles (4th year).

The students who left will represent our school for the incoming Metrobank MTAP Math Challenge Final Round on February 12,2009.

MNHS–Pob Chalks Twice in Division ICT Festival

Mariveles National High School – Poblacion cops two 1st place in the Division ICT Festival last December 4, 2008, Samal National High School, Samal, Bataan.


“Resistor Color Codes” by Mr. Angelo Basilio and “Slope of a Line” by Mrs. Leonora Jajalla got the First Place on Best Instructional Video Material (IVM). Out of 7 videos that were passed, only 4 met the deadline.

This competition aimed to showcase the following skills: (a) Production of Instructional Video Material in all learning areas for Secondary and Elementary School Teachers (b) Production of School Profile Videos for Secondary School Students, and (c) Powerpoint Presentation & ICT Quiz Bee for elementary pupils.

Meanwhile, the Regional ICT Quest will be held on January 28 – 30, 2009 at Xevera, Calibutbut, Bacolor, Pampanga with the theme “ICT4E CLICKS: Central Luzon Integrating Computer Knowledge”

MNHS Pob Hits 2nd Mark in Division Mass Singing Competition

After a month-long preparation, Mariveles National High School – Poblacion cops 2nd Place in Division Mass Singing Competition held at Mariveles Sports Complex, Mariveles, Bataan.


The first round of the competition was held last December 10, 2008 bringing MNHS – Poblacion to top 3 against all participating schools in Bataan.

Top 5 schools in the first round of competition matched last December 16, 2008 for the final round which makes the Alma Mater clutch the 2nd Place.

During the final round of competition, MNHS – Pob. added some attraction and spiced up the scene as if they were in a real field.

The triumph was initiated by MAPEH teachers, MNHS – Pob. choir, SSG Officers and was whole-heartedly participated and cooperated by MNHS – Poblacion students.

The tilt was entitled as “Magtanim ay Di Biro” as composed by Jose Tuazon of Balanga, Bataan.

As a compliment, Mrs. Marina M. Barlis, Secondary School Principal II, grant a free Christmas Ball to all those who participated in the competition.

MNHS - Pob Joins English Olympics

Last December 5, 2008, Mariveles National High School-Poblacion joined the English Olympics in Limay National High School, Limay, Bataan winning 3rd Place in Spelling Bee, 4th Place in Essay Writing and 5th Place in Declamation.

The winners in the contest were Yanica Marzo(1-star) in Spelling Bee, Marriane Serrano(3-Star) in Essay Writing Contest, and Kevin Janolo(3-1) in Declamation.

The trainors were Mrs. Abigail Juño for Marzo Mrs Eloisa Irasga, for Janolo and Serrano.

The other contestants were Michelle Rosilio(1-star) in Readaton, Lacer Esteban, Joseph Jalober, Hazel Lacang, Brett John Barsomo and Harold Gamboa in Reader's Theater, Arniel Louis Selorio(4-star) in Extemporaneous Speech, Kevin Paolo Robles(4-star),Jeruz Roberts(4-star), Jerome Canare(4-star), Eunice Sayno(4-star), Jomel Medina(4-1), May Tamayo(4-1), Jean Risa Soriano(4-2), Florderizaliza Estella(4-2), Alvin Oclos(4-3), and Mark Acob(4-3) for Speech Choir.

MNHS-Pob Joins Balagtasan

Last November 7, 2008, the students of Mariveles National High School-Poblacion joined the “Balagtasan” Contest in Samal National High School, Samal Bataan.

The students who joined the competition were Cedric Celeste, Jeruz Roberts and Jerome Canare, all from IV-Star.

Their trainers were Mrs. Priscila Concepcion and Ms. Contessa Sagad.

The students have their training for only two days.

MNHS-Poblacion Cops 1st Place in Radio Broadcasting in the 2008 DSPC

Last October 27-28, the students of Mariveles National High School- Poblacion attended the 2008 Division Schools Press Conference, at Pablo Roman National High School, Pilar, Bataan, copping first place in Radio Broadcasting and Script Writing and 5 th place in Sports writing Filipino. The theme of the said competition was “Climate change, a call for a campus journalist.”

The participants in Radio Broadcasting were Benjie Manila(IV-Star), Lester Anthony Sangalang(IV-Star), Alvin Ken de Ocampo(IV-Star), Angelo Subito(IV-Star), Kings Lee Magday(III-Star), Erveen Ian de Jesus(III-Star), and Erika Urje(II-A), while Jericho Canare(IV-Star) is the participant in Sports Writing Filipino.

The seven students who won first place will participate in the 2008 regional Schools Press Conference at Angeles City, Pampanga on December 8-12,2008.

MNHS - Poblacion Cops ”Matinik Award” in UP Tangway Patinikan

Last October 25, Mariveles National High School-Poblacion attended the annual UP Tangway Patinikan Contest in Bataan Heroes Memorial College, Balanga City, Bataan, winning first place in extemporaneous speech and 1st place in poster making contest, receiving the “Matinik Award” or 2nd runner up.

The winners in the said competition were Cedric Celeste(4-Star), winning 1st Place in extemporaneous speech, and Johnson Magdaong, 4th year, winning 1st place in poster making contest. The trainers were Mrs. Renila Cornejo for Celeste, and Mrs Shirley Mabitasan for Magdaong.

The two students will participate in the Regional contest sponsored by BaTWD(Bataan Water District), in Clark, Pampanga on November 27, 2008, and in UP Patalasan Lahi, next year.

Ang Marivelean grabs overall 2nd place in DSPC 2008

With the theme, “Climate Change, a call for a responsible journalist ”. Mariveles National High School-Poblacion’s “Ang Marivelean” cops over-all 2nd place in the concluded Division Schools Press Conference last October 27-28, 2009 in Pablo Roman National High School, Pilar, Bataan.

“Ang Marivelean’s” Sports Writer Jericho Canare won fifth place in Sports Writing.

The school paper won 2nd place in Sports page, third place in editorial page, third place in news page, and third place in feature page.

The advisers of the school paper were Ms Mina Lorena Lintag and Ms Rowena V. Alberto.

Forbes attends Regional Training for School Paper Adviser

Last October 14-17, 2008, Lalaine C. Forbes together with 7 students from other schools in Bataan attended the Regional Training for School Paper Adviser at Ulung Gulu, Angeles City, Pampanga.

The others students came from Limay National High School, Pablo Roman National High School, E.C. Bernabe School, Morong National High School and Samal National High School.

Ms. Rowena Abrique accompanied the students in the said seminar.

MNHS - Poblacion Copped Overall 2nd Place in STEP - DSDC

Once again our school- Mariveles National High School – Poblacion proved their excellency after bagging awards from Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippine – Division Skills Development and Competition in Pablo Roman National High School, Pilar, Bataan last October 9-10 in which we are entitled 2nd Place Overall.

Our school got 20 titles in the said competition. Cesar Refraction (Hair Trimming with Facial Day Make-Up) and Andrian Flores (Bookkeeping using MS Excel Program) won first place the guidance of Mrs. Edith Rivera and Mrs. Solita Aporto respectively.

The contestant in the Parliamentary Procedure; Marianne Serrano, Dianne April Pangilinan, Angela Yanica Marzo, Berna Thea Cruz, Cedric Celeste, Mariah Shane Osalvo, Anna Carmela Corona, Erveen Ian de Jesus, Janella Mhariz Villones, Marice Aňez, and Jerome Canare, instructed by Mrs. Jocelyn Pascual; Lovely Joy Peligrino (Electronic Poster Making) trained by Mr. Angelo Basilio; Michael Moncada (Construction of Heat Exhanger) – Mr. Elmer Baracao; Mark Mendoza (Auto-Body Painting) – Mr. Carlos Magday; Merlita Menil (Classy Apron Making) – Mrs. Liwayway Amansec; and Johnson Magdaong (Fruit and Vegetable Carving) – Mrs. Jaqcueline Limua won the second place.

Alpha Hessa Bierneza, Lacer Esteban, Juancho Amon, Jeruz Roberts and Kevin Paolo Robles showed their potential after gaining the third place in Business Planning with the guidance of Mrs. Carmencita Bautista and Mrs Iris Catalan. Marcelo Legaspi (Debut Cake Decorating) – Mrs. Marie Lozano and Kings Lee Magday (Project Proposal Making for Animal Production) – Mr. Carlos Magday also got the third place.

Studes Home Up For Sci tilt

With its theme, "Science and Technology: Focus on Food Security for Community Development", MNHS-Pob Launched School Intel Philippine Science fair last September 16,2008.

Winners for Science Quiz Bee are Diane April Pangilinan (1st yr.);Karl Raven Ramon(2nd yr), Andrian Flores (3rd yr.) and Efraim Noel Ebueng (4th yr.). Jeruz Roberts got the 1st place in Envirophoto, Johnson Magdaong for the Poster Making Contest, Lalaine Forbes for the Essay Writing.

Light Beam Smoke Alarm, Thermoplastic Tiles and MAC-MAC are the winners for the Investigatory Project (Applied Science); AlcoEucalyptalum Mosquito Repellent, AccuMed and Bignay leaf extract as indicator to test the presence of iron in water.

The event was held successfully through the help of Mr. Rolando T. Limua,Head Teacher, Mrs. Jocelyn Reyes, MT II/ Science Coordinator and YES-O and GLOBE Organization.

4th Year Studes Win In Eastwoods Competition

Several 4th year students from MNHS-Poblacion won in the competition sponsored by Eastwoods Professional College of Science and Technology in Ibayo, Balanga City last February 22,2008 prior to their celebration of their 14th Day of Foundation.

The contest categories were Spelling Bee, Math and Science Quiz Bee, Multimedia Presentation and Poster Making Contest.

Carissa Caraig led the other participants after securing the first place in Multimedia Presentation with the guidance of Ms. Edna Empleo followed by Rolly Boy Lorilla, Raymond Uyvico, and Manilyn Dela Rosa who snatched the 2nd place in Spelling Bee which was instructed by Mr. Benito Dacion and Mrs. Erlinda Capuli and also Arturo Magdaong Jr., 3rd place in Poster Making with Mrs. Shirley Mabitasan as trainor.

Tigers Long Title Drought Ends

After the long waiting for a new title, at last, the Mariveles Tigers pulled away the crown of victory as they crushed finely their opponents being the over – all champion in Bataan Provincial Meet held at Brgy. Kataasan, San Ramon, Dinalupihan, Bataan last November 17 – 19.

The Tigers’ championship title was ripped by five public high schools in Mariveles: MNHS – Poblacion, Annex, Cabcaben, Limay National High School and Lamao National High School.

MNHS – Poblacion players snatched four championship awards: Tigers basketball team coached by Mr. Elgin Mancilla, soccer team of Mr. Daved Salvador and Mr. Wilbert Langreo, table tennis (singles-women’s division) played by Cienah Lyn Badua, coach Mrs. Melanie Cadelino and Taekwondo jins; Lovely Valdez – flyweight, Samson dela Cruz – bantam weight, Michelle Almamento – lightweight, Jonalyn Coperas and Gerald Umang – welterweight which was all trained by Ms. Keithlyn de Asis.

Poblacion’s athletes also garnered multiple awards as follows: Christopher Advincula, 1st Place (800 m and 1000m run), John Rey Almendrez, 2nd Place (3000 m), Jerome Banania, 2nd Place (800 m) also 3rd in 1500 m. The group of Christopher Advincula, Segundino Dawlait, Almie Orongan, Jerome Banania, Richard Dumangas won 2nd Place in 4 x 400 m relay. Also Alvin Catipon copped 2nd Place in badminton (singles) and 3rd Place (mixed doubles) trained by Mrs. Rosemarie Cuevas.

The previously held Provincial Meet aims to develop the relationship between sportsmen and their respected schools and to uplift the sport spirit among the participants.

“I feel satisfied, credit ‘yon ng mga bata at coaches, wala naman silang makukuhang kapalit except sa honor o pagkilala as exchange sa pagsisikap nila… I’m satisfied..pati si ma’am Barlis di n’ya pinanghihinayangan yung gastos… di ko pwedeng angkinin yung credit, syempre sa estudyante at coaches iyon… congratulations to the Tigers’ Team. Keep up the good work.” Mr. Langreo flashes his words.
