Student Leaders on the Go

Student Leaders from all over the Philippines with our very own Supreme Student Government Officers namely, Andrian N. Flores, Kings Lee M. Magday, Marrianne M. Serrano, Charmina G. Sejalbo, and Julie Ann R. Rubia guided by the adviser Mrs. Cecile Rubia attended the annual NTSGO last September 4-9 held at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.

This sixth student seminar-training with the theme “New Beginnings for Nation Building: Seizing Opportunities, Sustaining Initiatives, Ako ang Magsisimula ng Pagbabago’’ primarily aims to teach young leaders to have good governance and work hand-in-hand to cope for what our country calls for.

Many speakers were invited such as Fr. Jayboy Gonzales, Mr. Cito Beltran and Mr. Harvey Keh that shared their experiences with regards to leadership. They also challenged the youth to participate more and get involve in the pursuance of a better country. As they say, “Everyone can contribute to nation building.’’

The election of the National Federation of Supreme Student Government Officers was also conducted. The officers who won will be in the position to lead and to serve their fellow students of the country within the whole year.

Celebrities like Gary, Gab and Paolo Valenciano, Diether Ocampo , Sam Concepcion, Ronnie Liang, and Robi Domingo who got there gave some highlights in the event.

This seminar was made possible through the cooperation of Center for Students Co-Curricular Affairs (CSCA) headed by Executive Director Joey G Pelaez with the Department of Education and help of the Masters Lighthouse Foundation and the Ateneo Student Trainers.

SSG & MAPEH Club launch Battle of the Bands

The Supreme Student Government and MAPEH club conducted the Battle of the bands last July 25, 2009, 4 pm at the Mariveles Sports Complex.

The announcement of the activity was declared by Mr. Daved Salvador, MAPEH Club and SPSII adviser. The officers of the SSG cooperated with the MAPEH Club to accomplish the said event. The proceeds of the program will be added to the funds of the SPS students for their upcoming contests. The masters of the ceremony were Marianne Serrano and King Lee Magday, both from the SSG.

The honorable guest who attended the event was Mr. Quirino Barlis, our school principal and honorable Mel Lopez, our municipal councilor. Mr. Barlis opened the ceremony by a great speech. The judges came from a local band, LAPD. Eighteen bands joined the battle.

From the 18 bands, only four were chosen by the judges. Kimstar won the 1st place, Parokya ni badong was the 2nd placer and Rockstud and Blackshadow tied for the 3rd place. Three thousand pesos was given to the 1st place, two thousand for the 2nd place and one thousand for the 3rd place. Mr. Salvador handed the prizes to the respective winners on July 27, 2009 at the MNHS Poblacion Quadrangle.
