New Classrooms Installed

The DepEd Central Office of Bataan, through the Principal – Led School Building Program, provided a 1.120M-budget for the installation of two additional classrooms in Mariveles National High School – Poblacion due to the disturbing escalating number of students.

It can be remembered that this project of additional rooms, including the schools of Lamao National High School and Mariveles National High School – Cabcaben, was initiated since 2009 but the budget was released just this month of September.

After that the budget was released by the Division Budget Management (DBM), the construction of the project was realized through the partnership of the Turquoise Construction and Trading on September 9.

Furthermore, the entity of the project was still on process because there are 2 more rooms to construct to make it a 3-story building which was again supported by the DepEd Central Office.

As of press type, it is depending upon the decision of Mr. Quirino G. Barlis whether how will he disseminate the students to the new classrooms installed and he’s hoping that this will be a great help for the welfare of the students and the whole community as well.

Faculty, Studes back World Teachers Day

Mariveles National High School- Poblacion rejoiced for World Teachers Day last October 5, 2010 in Mariveles Sports Complex.

The program was formally opened by Mr. Quirino G. Barlis, Secondary School Principal- III and Mr. Jonathan T. Tabbun, faculty president who full- heartedly extended their warm greetings to all their co- teachers.

The certificates were then given away next to every mentor of each year level which served as a way of showing appreciation to their hard works.

What became the liveliest part of the program was the presentation prepared by teachers from each year level.

The audience was all amazed as the teachers grooved to the music showing their bubbliest sides.
The sections with the best cards made were also awarded with certificates for winning in the card making competition.

Every teacher went out field with gratitude for the love and appreciation reflected unto them.
The realization of the program was through the effort of the Supreme Student Government (SSG).

PDCC initiates Earthquake Drill

To prepare the students, teachers, workers and administrators of Mariveles National High School- Poblacion, the quarterly Earthquake five minutes-drill which was intertwined by a Fire drill was held at the school quadrangle on September 24.

The said drill was initiated by the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council as a part of preparing the people in times of unexpected incidents brought by the nature.

Prior to the drill, the admirers of every section were given an orientation on how to guide their students whenever the alarm has started to sound and what will be the next step afterwards.

Moreover, some girl scouts, boy scout, teachers and Students Government Officers were chosen to act some scenes like fire fighting, application of first aids and helping the victims in times of needs.

Meanwhile, the signal has started to sound at 10 o’clock in the morning and lasted for approximately five minutes and the whole drill has lasted for almost an hour.

There was an evaluation right after the said drill and the feedback was positive because according to the evaluators, through the time for the preparation is just limited, there was cooperation among the students and teachers during the actual drill.

“We appreciate the presence and effort of our District Policemen and Firefighters together with the evaluators in working well with us to make this drill a successful event and we will do this regularly not only as a requirement but also as an advance preparation for all of us,” said Mr. Quirino G. Barlis, School Principal as he ended his message during the evaluation.

TLE Department Spearheads Educational Tour

The TLE Department spearheaded the educational tour for the students of Mariveles National High School- Poblacion last September 21 on their trip to Pampanga.

With excited hearts, the students went to Pampanga to enrich their minds as they learn while enjoying.

The first destination was Clark Museum wherein different facts about the history and past of the said province were displayed.

After enjoying the beauty and knowledge, everyone went next to SM Pampanga. Here they gained information about the present condition of our Earth regarding the challenges it faces through a film showing.

Lastly, the students were sent to Nayong Pilipino also to have fun and attain additional knowledge as well.

Real life replicas of historical structures and places caught the eyes of everybody which even enriched their minds more.

The success of this field trip would be impossible if not for the coordination of all the TLE teachers who worked hardly for the organization of the whole activity.

Poblanistas upgrade skills on Nutrition Month

For the whole month of July, the school had its annual month-long celebration for nutrition with the nationwide theme “Sa Pagkaing Tama at Sapat, Wastong Timbang ni Baby ang Katapat”.

In line with this, the school conducted various contests which were participated by students from different year levels.

In every event, the contestants showed their excellent skills and potentials which even made the competition more exciting.

“Basyang” Hits Mariveles

MARIVELES, Bataan – the super typhoon “Basyang” hit the town of Mariveles last July 13 at about midnight particularly the location of Brgy. Poblacion where numbers of fishing boats and ships together with some barges were devastated and many houses were destroyed.

In the investigation, the residents are not ready for the unexpected strike of the typhoon because they are unmindful and have no idea how powerful the said typhoon will be.

It was ten in the evening when the typhoon unpredictably shed its force making the power supply to be totally cut off and the Rescue teams, search personnel and navy officers of the government responded the following day to find the dead bodies and missing persons.

Moreover, the investigators reported that the ships and other boats came from different places such as Batanes, Manila, Batangas and even Mindoro and some personnel said that the wind was uncontrollable that’s why they have done nothing but to let their ships be cast away by the said typhoon.

According to the Municipal Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion, they will do their part in helping the victims and to bring back the normal situation from the nightmare caused by the storm.

With the year’s theme:”Filipino Youth: Pursuing National Unity through Accountable Leadership”, MNHS - Poblacion was hailed as “Mas Matinik’ in the annual UP Patinikan held in Bataan Heroes Memorial College last October 24.

Romalane Magdaong secured the 1st place in the Poster-Making Category with her coach -Mrs. Shirley Mabitazan. The second place,on the other hand, was also garnered by Lovely Joy Peligrino in her Extemporaneous Speech - Mrs. Susan Redima. Andrian Flores bagged the 3rd place in Essay Writing (Filipino) – Ms. Mildred Vilan; Jetaime Siocon, Roxanne Ortouste and Kings Lee Magday as 4th place in the UP Quiz Show – Mrs. Rosemarie Maglaki. Marianne Serrano copped 5th place in the Essay Writing (English) with Mrs. Renila Cornejo as coach.
The said event also highlighted the induction of the new members of the UP Tangway here in Bataan as well as the discussion with reference to the importance of accountable leadership in achieving national unity in our country.
The 1st, 2 and 3rd placers will be the representatives of our school and also of the UP Tangway in the National Level in UP Diliman next year by February.

In compliance to the Department of Educaton Curriculum under the ICT or (Information and Communications Technology) for Education, the Information Hub also known as iHub project in Bataan was launched for the Pilot schools at Mariveles National High School-Poblacion under the Municipality of Mariveles last October 18.
The launching program was started with the ribbon cutting by President Arroyo followed by the confirmation of the iHub computers connection and the speech of Governor Tet Garcia, Cong. Albert Garcia, Cong. Carissa Coscolluella and ended with the message delivered by the president herself.

Pres. Arroyo exclaimed that she is so thankful for the effort of the Officials of Bataan for initiating this kind of project. ‘I want every student nationwide to become computer literate. Kahit isang computer lang basta interconnected sa internet, yun ang importante kasi kung mayroon kang 20 computers kung wala namang connectiviy, walang matutunan kundi computer games lang kaya importante ang connectivity.’ thus said Mrs. Arroyo.
The stated project was realized through the leadership of Hon. Albert S. Garcia, Congressman of Bataan 2nd district and Hon. Carissa Coscolluela, Congresswoman of Buhay party list with the cooperation of Governor Enrique T. Garcia Sr., mayors of Bataan and diverse group of stakeholders deploying 500 computers, 14 laptops, 14 LCD TV’s, 14 WiFi routers, 14 printers and other computer accessories and productivity tools that will benefit more or less 24,000 students, 769 teachers and the community members.
The main goal of the Information Hub project is for computer users to maximize the utilization of information communications and technology and to build and ICT enabled community through the Bataan 2nd district Secondary Schools wherein the expected minimized ratio is at least 50 users for each computer connected with the international networking (internet) cables.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa magandang halimbawa dito sa Bataan lalong-lalo na sa mga proyektong ginawa ni Abet at ni Iyay dito sa kanilang distrito, maraming salamat at congratulations sa inyong lahat.” the president ended.

MNHS-Poblacion Tilts STEP Championship

Mariveles National High School-Poblacion has copped once again the championship trophy this year in the previously held Division STEP Competition last October 1-2 in Samal National High School. After garnering a total of 94.5 points with five 1st places, five 2nd places,two 3rd places and one 4th place, our school has prevailed among the other schools in the whole Division of Bataan.

In lined with the Go Negosyo Campaign, the 4th Youth Entrepreneurship and Cooperative in Schools (YECS) Entrepreneurship Training and Conference was clutched last July 26-31, 2009 at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City and was delegated by different YECS and STEP members together with their advisers and school head teachers, Division and Regional Supervisors in TLE and different School Principals from private and public schools all over the country.

With its theme “Teen Negosyo University: We’re in Business (How to Go Negosyo)”, six days full of entrepreneurial activities among the delegates were held which pursues to enhance more the entrepreneurial abilities of students and prepare them in continuing their career as businessmen of society in the future.

Moreover, Jeverlyn G. Huerto, School’s YECS Chairwoman, III-Star, together with her group, were recognized to have the “Best Business Idea” under the supervision of Ms. Edna B. Empleo, TLE Department Head Teacher III.

Meanwhile, during the entertainment night, different celebrities surprised the delegates with their timely entertainment performances. Two of those were Christian Bautista, famous singer and Sam Concepcion, present DepEd Youth Spokesperson respectively.

This conference was made possible through the help and cooperation of the Department of Education – Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (DepEd – CSCA), Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE), Office of Presidential Consultant on Entrepreneurship Joey A. A total of around 400 elementary and secondary SPA’s an CJ’s from both Public and Private schools attended the Regional training for School Paper Adviser and Campus Journalists at Juan R. Liwag National High School, Gapan City, Nueva Ecija last September 16-18 as being launched by DepEd Region III.

The said training was participated by Mr. Joey R. Silva, school paper adviser; Ms. Contessa Sagad, Filipino teacher; Angela Yanica Marzo and Joseph Andrew Jalober, both Campus Journalists.

Mr. Renato Aranda and Ms. Liwayway R. Marcado were two of the speakers who discussed some of the insights on how to improve the totality of every school publication especially the importance of implementing programs among the staffers.

Moreover, winners in the said activity were given certificates of recognition on the last day of seminar wherein Mr. Silva got the 2nd place in Feature Writing (SPAs Category); Angela Yanica Marzo, 2nd Place in News writing ands Joseph Andrew Jalober was recognized as 2nd place in Feature Writing.

Student Leaders from all over the Philippines with our very own Supreme Student Government Officers namely, Andrian N. Flores, Kings Lee M. Magday, Marrianne M. Serrano, Charmina G. Sejalbo, and Julie Ann R. Rubia guided by the adviser Mrs. Cecile Rubia attended the annual NTSGO last September 4-9 held at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.

This sixth student seminar-training with the theme “New Beginnings for Nation Building: Seizing Opportunities, Sustaining Initiatives, Ako ang Magsisimula ng Pagbabago’’ primarily aims to teach young leaders to have good governance and work hand-in-hand to cope for what our country calls for.

Many speakers were invited such as Fr. Jayboy Gonzales, Mr. Cito Beltran and Mr. Harvey Keh that shared their experiences with regards to leadership. They also challenged the youth to participate more and get involve in the pursuance of a better country. As they say, “Everyone can contribute to nation building.’’

The election of the National Federation of Supreme Student Government Officers was also conducted. The officers who won will be in the position to lead and to serve their fellow students of the country within the whole year.

Celebrities like Gary, Gab and Paolo Valenciano, Diether Ocampo , Sam Concepcion, Ronnie Liang, and Robi Domingo who got there gave some highlights in the event.

This seminar was made possible through the cooperation of Center for Students Co-Curricular Affairs (CSCA) headed by Executive Director Joey G Pelaez with the Department of Education and help of the Masters Lighthouse Foundation and the Ateneo Student Trainers.

Despite of rainy weather, Mariveles National High School- Poblacion launched the 10th School Intel-Philippine Science Fair on September 4, 2009 at Science Laboratory Room and was joined by studes with its theme, “Adapting to Diverse Science Culture for Development”.

The highlight of the event is the presentation of the Science Investigatory Project aside from the contests in Essay Writing, Poster Making, Enviro-Photo and Quiz Bee for each year level.

Teachers Undergo Medical Check-up

To ensure the good physical condition of teachers in Bataan, they have undergone a half-day free medical check-up last August 19 at Antonio G, Llamas Elementary School, Mariveles Bataan which was sponsored by the governor of Bataan, Hon Enrique Garcia, Sr.

The teachers who attended the said activity came from different schools in Bataan from both elementary and secondary level wherein they the medical mission group started their duties for as early as 7 o’clock in the morning.

According to some respondents it was a great privilege for them to have such free medical check-up because this is one chance to ensure the condition of their health as government employees.

Officers Take oath

The officers of different school organizations and associations of Mariveles National High School-Poblacion took their oath at Mariveles Sports Complex last August 6.

Mr. Quirino Barlis, SSP-II gave his welcome message to the parents, visitors, officers and students who attended the said program.

Municipal mayor Jesse I. Concepcion also delivered his message and he stated that he will do his best to provide and support the necessities of students to maintain the good quality of education.
The program ended with the greetings coming from Mrs. Renila Cornejo and Mr. Joey R. Silva as the masters of ceremony.

MNHS-Pob Celebrates Nutrition Month

With its theme “Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan”, the T.L.E. department held its annual fest activities, participated by the MNHS – Pob studes, in commemoration to the celebration of Nutrition Month on July.

Contest held on these 4 consecutive weeks are the Nutri-Quiz Bee through the coordination of Mrs. Neptalie del Rosario, Slogan Writing Contest care of Mrs. Solita A. Aporto, Essay Writing Contest coordinated by Mrs. Dina Banzon, Poster-Making Contest by Mrs. Solita Aporto and Cooking Fest by Mrs. Marie Lozano, Mrs. Edith Rivera and Mrs. Jacqueline Limua, respectively.

Journalists Join PressCon

The Annual School Press Conference was participated by student journalists from Mariveles National High School – Poblacion last July 30, 2009.

The program started with a prayer by Andrian Flores, a student from IV- star. Lovely Joy Peligrino led the singing of our national anthem. It was then followed by the speech of our principal, Mr. Quirino Barlis. He acknowledged the presence of our guests, Mrs. Dolores Tanada, Ms. Francia Quiro from Cabcaben National High School. After Mr. Barlis’ speech, the contest proper started.

The journalists joined in News writing, Copyreading, Editorial Writing, Feature writing, Sports writing, Editorial Cartooning, Photo journalism and Radio broadcasting. Ms. Quiro supervised the News writers, copyreader and Editorial.

Mrs. Tanada focused on the Editorial cartoonists and Photo Journalists. Mr. Pagaduan lectured the feature writers, sports writers and radio broadcasters.

The winners were awarded by Mr. Joey Silva, Mrs. Rowena Abrique and Mr. Quirino Barlis last August 19, 2009. For news writing, Angela Yanica N. Marzo won the first place in English division and Kimberly Marie Balala for Filipino. Marriane Serrano and Leira Marie Tolentino for Copyreading, and Andrian Flores and Lovely Joy Peligrino for Editorial writing bag the award for first place. SSG & MAPEH Club launch Battle of the Bands

The Supreme Student Government and MAPEH club conducted the Battle of the bands last July 25, 2009, 4 pm at the Mariveles Sports Complex.

The announcement of the activity was declared by Mr. Daved Salvador, MAPEH Club and SPSII adviser. The officers of the SSG cooperated with the MAPEH Club to accomplish the said event. The proceeds of the program will be added to the funds of the SPS students for their upcoming contests. The masters of the ceremony were Marianne Serrano and King Lee Magday, both from the SSG.

The honorable guest who attended the event was Mr. Quirino Barlis, our school principal and honorable Mel Lopez, our municipal councilor. Mr. Barlis opened the ceremony by a great speech. The judges came from a local band, LAPD. Eighteen bands joined the battle.

From the 18 bands, only four were chosen by the judges. Kimstar won the 1st place, Parokya ni badong was the 2nd placer and Rockstud and Blackshadow tied for the 3rd place. Three thousand pesos was given to the 1st place, two thousand for the 2nd place and one thousand for the 3rd place. Mr. Salvador handed the prizes to the respective winners on July 27, 2009 at the MNHS Poblacion Quadrangle.

Interhigh PepSquad Begins

Last February 09, 2009, the 11th Interhigh School was held at the Mariveles Sports Complex. Various schools showed its potential to each competition such as Mariveles National High School - Poblacion, Mariveles National High School - Poblacion (Annex), Mariveles National High School - Cabcaben, Mountain View Village School, Llamas Memorial Institute, Bepz Multinational School, and Sunny Hillside School. Many people stood by for the most awaited event of the competition which is known to be the Pep Squad.

This year, there are oly three (3) entries in this event, these were MNHS - Poblacion (Blue Marlins), MNHS - Poblacion (Annex) (Black Hawks), and MNHS - Cabcaben (Stallions). Each school were given a chance to introduce themselves through a cheer which made the crowd even more excited to get it started.

The first school that performed was Black Hawks who gave their best in their performance. Next was the Stallions who became noticeable and and favored because of the complicated stunts that they've done. And lastly, the Blue Marlins showed their Pep Squad capabilities of cheer dancing.

At the end of the competition, the Stallions took home the bacon and was entitled the winner. Meanwhile, Mariveles National High School-Poblacion was awarded as 1st Runner up in the competition.

Tarlac State University also showed their talent as they perform as guest in the Pep Squad.

Angelo Basilio secured 1st spot in the recently concluded 1st Regional ICT Quest in Instructional Video Production held in Honorato Perez Memorial High School, Cabanatuan City, last January 28-30, 2009 which was partaken by 16 other divisions and city schools in Central Luzon.

Basilio excelled above all participants by defeating other divisions in the entire Central Luzon Region which has this year’s theme, “ICT4E CLICKS! (Central Luzon Integrating Computer Knowledge and Skills)”, aimed to promote ICT in education through integration in all learning areas, provide equal opportunity for teachers and students to develop and apply skills in ICT, showcase the level of ICT awareness, knowledge, utilization, best practices and innovations in each division and to provide avenue for students and teachers to interact, compete and work together to build up solidarity and proper values.

the students , as well as the teachers joined forces in cleaning the places. This activity was supervised by the fourth year teachers who also helped in cleaning the surroundings. With the concern of all the councilors of the two barangays, the students who participated in this activity were given snacks in appreciation of their efforts.

The students find this activity an interesting and joyful one because it is when they meet friends and have bonding even for a short period of time.

The Municipality of Mariveles as well as the Mariveles National High School-Poblacion launched a healthy-lifestyle which was held last January 30,20009 at the MNHS-Poblacion Quadrangle.

The healthy-lifestyle was led by the First Lady of Mariveles, D.MD Cleotilde I. Concepcion with the cooperation of the Municipal Health Consultants. The program was started with the short messages delivered by Mrs. Cleotilde I. Concepcion and MNHS-Poblacion Faculty President, Ms.Rosemarie Maglaki.

The main aim of the program is to promote among the teachers as well as to the students the importance of the healthy-lifestyle and to encourage everyone to have an exercise habit.
The said program was parcitipated by the teachers and students of the different year level. The school decided to continue this program and to have a dance exercise every Friday after classes.

1st place winners in the Division ICT Festival, Mr. Angelo Basilio and Mrs. Leonora Jajalla of MNHS – Poblacion, attended the Intensive Training in the production of Instructional Video Material and School Profile Video, PowerPoint Presentation and ICT Quiz Bee on January 19 – 23, 2009 launched at the Division Office Conference Hall.

Eventhough they copped first place, the participants still wanted to improve their abilities that’s why they attended training which aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participant in Power Director 7.0, MS PowerPoint 2003 and general knowledge in ICT and Internet Literacy needed in competing the Regional ICT Quest which will be launched on January 28 – 30, 2009 at Xevera, Calibutbut, Bacolor, Pampanga.

Microcity Computer College held a career guidance to all senior students of MNHS - Poblacion at Mariveles Sports Complex last January 20, 2009.

Engineer Dino Lacsamana headed their group. He was a graduate of MAPUA College and now a successful businessman and head of Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Communication Engineering at MCC.

One of the main courses they offer is Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Communication Engineering (BS ECE) which they consider as a Bachelor's degree. aside from that they also offer short term courses for those who want to get a job immediately.
In addition to this, the personnel of MCC also gave some discount checks worth P 5,000 which can be availed when you enroll to them a 2yr. course.

Jajalla; Lovely Joy Peligrino, Joseph Andrew J. Jalober and Arjay B. Pineda (2nd year) with Mrs.Corazon Arellano;Marianne Serrano,Roxanne S. Ortousie and Jetaime Siocon (3rd year) which was initiated by Mr.Ronald V. Tiangco; Kevin Paolo Robles, Joanna Joy Santos and Efraim Noel Ebeung (4th year) with the guidance of Ms. Rosemarie A. Maglaki. And with the supervision of the Head Teacher of the Mathematics Department Mr.Rolando Limua .

From the Elimination Round , two students each year level has left. Mariveles National High School – Poblacion cops two 1st place in the Division ICT Festival last December 4, 2008, Samal National High School, Samal, Bataan.

“Resistor Color Codes” by Mr. Angelo Basilio and “Slope of a Line” by Mrs. Leonora Jajalla got the First Place on Best Instructional Video Material (IVM). Out of 7 videos that were passed, only 4 met the deadline.

Last December 8-12, the students of Mariveles National High School-Poblacion, cops first place in the Regional Schools Press Conference in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The winners were Lester Anthony Sangalang(IV-Star), Benjie Manila(IV-Star), Angelo Subito(IV-Star), Alvin Ken De Ocampo(IV-Star), Kings Lee Magday(III-Star), Erveen Ian de Jesus(III-Star), and Erika Urje(II-A).

On the first day of the competition, a parade was held leading to Expo Filipino, Angeles City, Pampanga, were the Opening Ceremony was held. The host city welcomed the 17 division and cities of Region III.

On the third day, the journalists went to the Museo ning Angeles, City Library, and SM Clark.

The fourth day was the contest proper, 16 participants joined the Radio Broadcasting. The contest consisted of one hour rehearsal ad one hour script writing.

The Bataan Representatives in Radio Broadcasting won overall first place. Benjie Manila won first place in Technical application and Erveen Ian de Jesus won third place in news presentation.

Otherwise, the host city will represent Region III in National Schools Press Conference.

MNHS Pob Hits 2nd Mark in Division Mass Singing Competition

After a month-long preparation, Mariveles National High School – Poblacion cops 2nd Place in Division Mass Singing Competition held at Mariveles Sports Complex, Mariveles, Bataan.

The first round of the competition was held last December 10, 2008 bringing MNHS – Poblacion to top 3 against all participating schools in Bataan.

Top 5 schools in the first round of competition matched last December 16, 2008 for the final round which makes the Alma Mater clutch the 2nd Place.

During the final round of competition, MNHS – Pob. added some attraction and spiced up the scene as if they were in a real field.

The triumph was initiated by MAPEH teachers, MNHS – Pob. choir, SSG Officers and was whole-heartedly participated and cooperated by MNHS – Poblacion students.

The tilt was entitled as “Magtanim ay Di Biro” as composed by Jose Tuazon of Balanga, Bataan.

As a compliment, Mrs. Marina M. Barlis, Secondary School Principal II, grant a free Christmas Ball to all those who participated in the competition.

CAT Studes Launch Outreach Program

Mr. Daved Salvador, MAPEH Teacher, led the launching of Citizenship Advancement Training (CAT) Outreach Program as part of their community service at Bayanbayanan of Aetas, Brgy. Upper Biaan, Mariveles, Bataan last December 17, 2008.

The program was successfully arranged through the great participation of 4-Star and 4-a students, together with Mr. Elgin Mancilla, AP Teacher, Mr. Elmer Baracao and Mr. Carlos Magday, TLE Teacher.

CAT students exhibit their talents through breakdancing, comedy skit and singing. They also prepare some snacks for the aeta children.

Though CAT students walk a mile to reach the place, this program touches the heart of everyone, seeing the smile in their lips and hearing those sweet laughter which ease the tiredness of CAT students.

The program was ended by gift giving which was led by Mr. Magday, Mr. Mancilla, Mr. Baracao and other SSG Officers. Mrs. Banal, Biaan School of Aeta teacher, impart their appreciation and gratitude for the program.

DepEd's Laptop for Teachers (LT4T) program started

According to the press release posted on the DepEd’s official website today, DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus has signed agreements with NEO and ACER to provide laptops for public school teachers at a low price. Teachers can acquire laptops for half the price which they can pay on monthly installments without interest. The Laptop for Teachers (LT4T) program is under the DepEd’s Adopt-a-School Program.

Public school teachers wanting to purchase these affordable laptops under LT4T program must pass the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) examination offered by an independent online certification company. Interested teachers must also have a minimum monthly take home pay of P4,000 if they would like to acquire the unit in installment basis.

DepEd’s press release further states that, Microsoft will also make available English language versions of the Windows Vista Home Basic Software, wherein Microsoft will contribute US$7 to DepEd's Adapt-a-School Program for every laptop bought by the public school teachers.

This program is in line with the DepEd’s pledge to integrate Information and Communication Technology in improving teaching and learning outcomes.

Mariveles National High School Poblacion was founded in 1985. It was during the term of Mayor Melba Buenaventura who initially requested the DECS Division Office of Bataan to open a new secondary high school in the town proper of Mariveles. It was only Mariveles Municipal High School in Barangay Cabcaben that existed as public secondary school that provide free secondary education, It was June of the same year when the request was approved.

The first municipal high school in the town proper of Mariveles was initially located at Mariveles Public Market building occupying several rooms to accommodate the first enrollee of five girls and thirteen boys. The school became an annex of Mariveles High School in Cabcaben as the main campus under the supervision of Mrs. Ester S. Paguio who assigned two pioneer teachers, Mr. Jose D. Reyes and Mr. Elias Fiel. These two educators were the first high school mentors of the students in all subject areas. The distance between the main campus and annex, plus the fact of having no principal paved the way to assign an Officer-in -Charge to manage the well increasing number of students, Mr. Jose D. Reyes was the first Officer-in-Charge from 1985-1991.

On its second year, Mariveles High School - Annex gained positive response with the community. The enrollment increased that resulted to its growing need for more teachers and classrooms. Makeshift classrooms were constructed at the basement of the public market office building on its third year and four additional teachers were assigned.

With its growing number of population, the Municipality of Mariveles with the help of several officials provided a cite where two rooms were constructed. The land was beside the municipal hall building since the Public Office Market could not accommodate additional makeshift classrooms. The first batch of graduates occupied the two rooms in the new site where Mariveles National High School Poblacion is located.

The school continued its remarkable progress and there was an unprecedented number of enrollees up to the term of Dr. Simeona Emata. Several buildings were constructed from Local Government, Department of Education Culture & Sports and Non Government Organizations, under its officers in charge Mrs. Marina Barlis.

It was 1996 when Mariveles National High School Annex was established as an independent secondary high school and it changed its name to Mariveles National High School Poblacion under the supervision of its first principal Mr. Jose D. Reyes. Temendous changes occurred as the Municipality of Mariveles permanently donated the land area of 5,000 square meters for school site ready for titling. The school continued to grow with its enrollees. The first shifting schedule was implemented to answer the problem of overpopulation of students. Despite population related problems, Mariveles National High School - Poblacion heralded as top three in achievement in the Newly Nationalized Secondary High School in Region III in 2001.

To answer the school's growing population, the first annex school was inaugurated in SY 2001 - 2002. It was located at Kadiwa Bldg. inside the Bataan Export Processing Zone at Barangay Malaya.

Mrs. Francisca S. De Roxas was the next principal following the term of Mr. Reyes. She served the school from June 2002 to July 2005.

Under the term of Mrs. Marina M. Barlis, the next principal, more buildings were constructed in and out of the school campus. This would not be possible without the help of the Provincial and Local Government.

This school year, 2009-2010, MNHS-Poblacion has a new principal in the person of Mr. Quirino G. Barlis. Various construction projects are being done to solve the problem about security and to accomodate the increasing number of students.

With the progress achieved from its humble beginning, Mariveles National High School - Poblacion continue its vision and mission of serving the community of Mariveles high quality education.

With its theme, "Science and Technology: Focus on Food Security for Community Development", MNHS-Pob Launched School Intel Philippine Science fair last September 16,2008.

Winners for Science Quiz Bee are Diane April Pangilinan (1st yr.);Karl Raven Ramon(2nd yr), Andrian Flores (3rd yr.) and Efraim Noel Ebueng (4th yr.). Jeruz Roberts got the 1st place in Envirophoto, Johnson Magdaong for the Poster Making Contest, Lalaine Forbes for the Essay Writing.

Light Beam Smoke Alarm, Thermoplastic Tiles and MAC-MAC are the winners for the Investigatory Project (Applied Science); AlcoEucalyptalum Mosquito Repellent, AccuMed and Bignay leaf extract as indicator to test the presence of iron in water.

The event was held successfully through the help of Mr. Rolando T. Limua,Head Teacher, Mrs. Jocelyn Reyes, MT II/ Science Coordinator and YES-O and GLOBE Organization.

4th Year Studes Win In Eastwoods Competition

Several 4th year students from MNHS-Poblacion won in the competition sponsored by Eastwoods Professional College of Science and Technology in Ibayo, Balanga City last February 22,2008 prior to their celebration of their 14th Day of Foundation.

The contest categories were Spelling Bee, Math and Science Quiz Bee, Multimedia Presentation and Poster Making Contest.

Carissa Caraig led the other participants after securing the first place in Multimedia Presentation with the guidance of Ms. Edna Empleo followed by Rolly Boy Lorilla, Raymond Uyvico, and Manilyn Dela Rosa who snatched the 2nd place in Spelling Bee which was instructed by Mr. Benito Dacion and Mrs. Erlinda Capuli and also Arturo Magdaong Jr., 3rd place in Poster Making with Mrs. Shirley Mabitasan as trainor.

Tigers Long Title Drought Ends

After the long waiting for a new title, at last, the Mariveles Tigers pulled away the crown of victory as they crushed finely their opponents being the over – all champion in Bataan Provincial Meet held at Brgy. Kataasan, San Ramon, Dinalupihan, Bataan last November 17 – 19.

The Tigers’ championship title was ripped by five public high schools in Mariveles: MNHS – Poblacion, Annex, Cabcaben, Limay National High School and Lamao National High School.

MNHS – Poblacion players snatched four championship awards: Tigers basketball team coached by Mr. Elgin Mancilla, soccer team of Mr. Daved Salvador and Mr. Wilbert Langreo, table tennis (singles-women’s division) played by Cienah Lyn Badua, coach Mrs. Melanie Cadelino and Taekwondo jins; Lovely Valdez – flyweight, Samson dela Cruz – bantam weight, Michelle Almamento – lightweight, Jonalyn Coperas and Gerald Umang – welterweight which was all trained by Ms. Keithlyn de Asis.

Poblacion’s athletes also garnered multiple awards as follows: Christopher Advincula, 1st Place (800 m and 1000m run), John Rey Almendrez, 2nd Place (3000 m), Jerome Banania, 2nd Place (800 m) also 3rd in 1500 m. The group of Christopher Advincula, Segundino Dawlait, Almie Orongan, Jerome Banania, Richard Dumangas won 2nd Place in 4 x 400 m relay. Also Alvin Catipon copped 2nd Place in badminton (singles) and 3rd Place (mixed doubles) trained by Mrs. Rosemarie Cuevas.

The previously held Provincial Meet aims to develop the relationship between sportsmen and their respected schools and to uplift the sport spirit among the participants.

“I feel satisfied, credit ‘yon ng mga bata at coaches, wala naman silang makukuhang kapalit except sa honor o pagkilala as exchange sa pagsisikap nila… I’m satisfied..pati si ma’am Barlis di n’ya pinanghihinayangan yung gastos… di ko pwedeng angkinin yung credit, syempre sa estudyante at coaches iyon… congratulations to the Tigers’ Team. Keep up the good work.” Mr. Langreo flashes his words.
